Abstract
Revolutions are the phenomena that still need to be studied. The present study in a comparative-historical perspective in the framework of Crane Brinton's theory of revolution examines one of the seemingly common features of great revolutions, namely the formation and fate of interim governments. The narrative and commonalities and differences of the temporary governments of the four revolutions of France,Russia,Algeria and the Islamic Revolution have been discussed based on the comparative-historical method.
The Provisional Governments take same actions such as deciding about the political elites of the former regime, formulating new regulations for the revolutionary government, and so on. However, their structures, stages of formation, functions, and destinies are different. And this, in comparison with Brinton's theory, suggests that at the level of his alleged evolutionary stages in revolutions, including the rise of moderates and then radicals and the forced fate of the so-called radical revolutionaries, namely Thermidor,is flawed. |
