Abstract: (169 Views)
After the Ba`th Party coup in 1968, the Iraqi government, led by Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr, sought to acquire chemical weapons. This process intensified during the presidency of Saddam Hussein and the beginning of the imposed war against Iran. The Iraqi army used conventional weapons at the beginning of the war and when it was superior, but when Iran became superior, especially after the conquest of Khorramshahr, it turned to the widespread use of chemical weapons. Now, the issue of the present article is to clarify the role of German companies in equipping Iraq with various types of chemical weapons. The author has analyzed the present article based on the method of historical research. The findings of this research indicate that German companies such as Heyberger, Karl Kolb and Prosag played a key role in the construction of the Samarra, Fallujah and Akashat complexes, and it was these same companies that created the production line for various types of chemical weapons, from mustard gas and prussic acid to the nerve gases sarin and tabun. This article aims to examine, using the method of historical research, a detailed description of the German companies cooperating with the Iraqi government in the construction of chemical weapons factories.
